Labor organization in Washington, DC with strong ties to Obama and the progressive movement seeks web designer/developer.

We are looking for a web designer/developer with a range of skills who is committed to progressive-labor issues and values ( universal healthcare, economic justice, etc. ).

Skills we are looking for are listed below (with likely % of your time in parenthesis):

1. Strong Photoshop and Illustrator for web (40%)
- - Web ads, photo editing, layouts, etc.

2. XHTML/CSS coding + CMS template editing (30-40%)
- - strong understanding of and commitment to web standards
- - - knowledge to break from those standards when appropriate
- - - ability to avoid and debug browser quirks
- - Familiarity with template building in Content Management Systems (Movable Type, WordPress) and the ability to quickly adapt to and learn new template systems

3. Flash & ActionScript: (10%)
- - lightweight animated web ads
- - - use of forms and data in flash / web ads
- - creative, intuitive info-graphics (think nytimes.com)

4. PHP/SQL development (10-20%):
- - modules/code for Movable Type or WordPress and/or modifications to existing plugins
- - occasional custom code for use with existing issue-advocacy tools
- - interest in and ability to explore third-party APIs for potential use in advocacy campaigns (google maps, facebook, twitter, etc.)
- - plus any great ideas you might be inspired to invent for us

You'll be working closely with an Art Director, strategists and content creators on a strong team that has earned a great deal of freedom to innovate. Obviously, along with that freedom comes high expectations. Ability to work in an improvisational environment is essential. Long hours will be required from time to time, especially in the run-up to Nov. 4 and other key campaigns. Excellent benefit package included.
